Hoby with Rotherby Parish Council Serving the people of Hoby, Rotherby, Ragdale and Brooksby

Who we are & what we do

Hoby with Rotherby Parish Council was created in 1936 when the Parishes of Hoby, Rotherby, Ragdale and Brooksby joined together as a single Parish Council.

The Parish is divided into four wards:

Hoby Ward, returning 2 Councillors

Rotherby Ward, returning 1 Councillor

Brooksby Ward, returning 1 Councillor and

Ragdale Ward, returning 1 Councillor

Some of the Parish Council's responsibilities and partnerships with other levels of Local Government and Organisations include Local Planning Issues, Street Lighting, Drains, Pot Holes, Footpaths and Bridle Ways, Transport Issues, including speeding vehicles and Community Transport, Redundant Telephone Kiosks, Rotherby Pond, The Community Computer, Environmental Issues including Tree Planting and Conservation, Our Heritage, Community Assets, Brooksby Quarry, Tree Preservation Orders (TPO's), Notice Boards, Litter Picking, The Brooksby Road and Church Lane, Hoby Wild Flower Verges, Issues relating to Flooding and Hoby with Rotherby Parish Council Neighbourhood Development Plan (NDP) to name but a few.

Meetings of the Parish Council are held every two months at Hoby and District Village Hall. The Annual Parish Meeting and Annual Meeting of the Parish Council is held in May each year. All meetings start at 7.30pm

Legislation was passed in 2020 allowing meetings of the Parish Council to take place online. On May 19th 2020 the Parish Council held its first ever online meeting. After the pandemic this legislation was rescinded, and in person meetings only now take place of the Full Council

The most recent elections to the Parish Council were in 2023. Two of the members of the Parish Council are elected Cllrs. The other three Cllrs. have been co-opted to the Full Council. The Parish Clerk is currently training for the CiLCA qualification as part of the journey of the Parish Council to gain the General Power of Competence.

The Working Groups of the Full Council have specific tasks, but authority for decision making remains with the Full Council of the Parish Council.

Parish Clerk and Responsible Financial Officer

The Parish Council employs a part time Parish Clerk who works 1 Day per week for the Parish Council. They act as Parish Clerk to the Council and is also their Responsible Financial Officer.
